Our campus: Over Eight Acres of Peace and Comfort
Our 8 1/2-acre campus is home to more than our main building. While our sanctuary provides beautiful and holy worship space, there is also holy space at the rear of our property. Many people find peace and comfort in the nearness of God’s presence sitting in our Memorial Garden, socializing at our pavilion, or walking our labyrinth.
The Pavilion
Our covered pavilion has picnic tables for outdoor gatherings, along with a feature-rich kitchen and outdoor grill. We have enjoyed many picnics, cookouts, wedding receptions, and other social events in this space.
Meeting Hall
This small building beside the pavilion has two meeting rooms, along with a small kitchen area and two bathrooms. Holy Cross parishioners gather here weekly for May Joong, Canasta and Bridge playing. This facility is also used by AA and Al Anon for meetings each week.
Memorial Garden
In 1999, after many months of planning and hard work, Holy Cross dedicated a Memorial Garden with a columbarium. These niches, or compartments, are for urns containing ashes of the dead. It is a means by which one’s remains may be kept in or near his or her parish church, reminding us of the communion of saints, both living and dead.
Labyrinth
The central feature of our memorial garden is a brick labyrinth, patterned after the one set in the stone floor of the Chartres Cathedral in France in 1220. It is a classical, 11-circuit labyrinth that was built entirely by the loving hands of the members of Holy Cross. Unlike mazes, a labyrinth has a single path in and out. There are no false entrances or dead ends. Many Christians are rediscovering the significance of the labyrinth as a spiritual tool for prayer and reflection. We are all on the path—exactly where we need to be. The labyrinth is a model of that path, a metaphor for life’s journey. To all who come here, we welcome you to our sacred space.
St. Francis Garden
This garden is dedicated to preserving the memory of our pets. Available to Holy Cross members and anyone in the community, it is home to an underground repository for cremated remains. Since 2006, interment services have been held a few times each year. This beautiful area also has a birdbath and several bluebird houses. A book, which is a permanent record of the church, is provided so that the pet owners can place a picture, scripture, song, or any other special remembrance of their beloved pet. A special service is conducted once a quarter after the main Sunday service for anyone who would like to have their pet’s cremains interred. Please contact the church secretary at 967-7400 to schedule this time.
Alex’s Fountain
The fountain near the labyrinth is dedicated to the memory of Alex Haigler, a 4-year-old boy who lost his struggle with leukemia in 2004. The fountain offers visitors an opportunity to experience the peace of flowing (living) water. “…those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” (John 4:14)
The Lily Pond
In 2011, parishioner Deanna Darnell offered funding for a lily pond. The master plan was completed and approved in 2013, and the pond was installed in the summer of 2014. It has a cascading waterfall, landscaping, irrigation, and lighting. Deanna generously provided all the funding for this project in memory of her mother, Doris Darnell.
